Reminicense of The Canines [A Collection of Stories]

#1. Aurora

It happened in November 2005. I can still clearly remember eating fried rice, mum's special dish, in the living hall. A squeaky whining sound alerted me and I quietly put down my spoon. There had been reports of robberies around the place I lived. I looked out the window to "investigate" whatever was at my gate. Personally, I wanted some action-packed robbery or whatever to happen...

What I saw startled me. A couple of week old puppies were squirming outside my gate. At that moment, a four foot bent figure disappeared around the corner. I unlocked the gate and just stared at the watery black eyes that were now curious though terrified. Hollering at my mum, I used disposable gloves and picked up both pups, cradling them against me. I noticed that one of them had a white hind sock.

Mum was a part time vet she confirmed that they were both GSD puppies. *German Shepherd Dog*. That meant that they would grow into huge adults, probably the reason their owner abandoned them outside my house, knowing that we were animal lovers. The female GSD (the one with a white sock) actually started bonding with me. She licked and stumbled over my hands, demanding attention with her high pitch whines. She won my heart and I wanted to keep her. Mum wasn't so keen though. We already had 3 bloodhounds, 4 mongrels, 2 pairs of sparrows, 14 hamsters and a family of 5 cats!

Unbeknowest to me, mum had put them up for adoption after their injections. Seven weeks later, both had been adopted into two different families. I woke up early as usual and popped my head into the "Dog Palace" room where the GSD pups were kept with the bloodhounds. It was empty except the bloodhounds eating their breakfast. On their cages, were the words: ADOPTED. My throat tightened and I hurried into my mum's room to find out everything. My face was burning while she explained to me. I flew into a tantrum, and didn't have an appetite to eat. I just stayed in my bedroom, tearing up paper and soft toys. Looking back, it was rather childish. The hole in my heart lasted for six long months. Even after that, things weren't so good either. I started going "insane" and I failed almost all my examinations.

August 2007 came. I had recovered a little though I still sadly missed the female pup, which was probably a dog/bitch by now. One Saturday morning, I picked up the daily newspaper and skimmed through the latest lost and found column. The newspaper advertised for help to find a lost GSD! My heart started to pump a little faster.

MISSING DOG

Name: Aurora (answers to the name Aura)
Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
License Number: 4305
Special Markings: A white left hind leg
Last Seen: Around SMK Jalan Arang
Days Lost: 2 days

I beamed with excitement, I studied in SMK Jalan Arang! However, I kept this excitment to myself. Mum did not deserve to know it. I did tell mum that I was going to school for some curricular activities, a lie of course. I wasn't accustomed to lying but, oh well... Shoving a pack of Alpos into my badminton bag, I headed out before she disaproved of going out on Saturdays instead of helping her with some paperwork.

Nearing the school, I spotted what I had been hoping for. My prayers were answered. Out of the long grass, a pair of dark tensed eyes peered at me recognisibly. Somehow she still remembered who I was, from her childhood days with me. I still took careful measures, these type of dogs have been known to kill when they felt threatened and they were used to help the police force and the army. Aurora took the dog biscuits gratefully from my hand. She must've been really hungry. Half an hour later, Aurora followed me home trustingly. I regretted that move.

Mom was just finishing a hamster's checkup when she saw me walking home with a giant trodding beside me. Her eyes almost popped out. I beamed proudly, I was satisfied, being a young kid leading a big dog. What a show off. ^^ "Sam! Are you okay?" She asked me as if I had gone out of my mind. She hadn't seen the advert in the newspaper so I doubt that she knew anything about Aurora. What she did notice was the white hind leg. And, I ignored her. She became stern though she didn't make any sudden moves to scare Aura into attacking. I guess she was a little scared too, staring at her child angrily while a faithful-to-your-child huge GSD was standing in her garden, on guard. She commaded me to stay away from the dog and I replied through my gritted teeth, "Order me again and I'll set her on you." Of course, I did not mean it but I was angry. I hardly ever talked to my mum ever since she gave Aura away. She hurt me so much by doing that and was she shock at my cold responds. I saw the sad look on her face and forced myself to smile smugly though in my heart, I looked like this:
I wanted her to love me so much, she did, I know, but I think I was quite selfish too at that time and I didn't feel it. I hated her because she did not give me what I wanted, that is, let me keep Aurora. I accused her of everything and she could not stand it. She took off into the bathroom. Her sobs could be faintly heard from the outside. After a while, she came out and we had a little nice conversation with some coffee that I made. I apologised to her and I, in turn, started to cry too! It was so awkward because I felt like I was talking to a stranger that was becoming less and less "strangerer" to me. Our relationship became better and well..it still is.

Anyway, once Aurora was with my family, which consisted of just animals and a mum, I became happier! The colour returned to my cheeks, the cold eyes faded and, I exceled in my exams. We had fun together, me, Aura, and mum for a few days until mum suddenly pried open my clothes cupboard to find a newspaper cutting of a lost dog. She called me and it hit me like, BAMm! I had totally forgotten about the owner that was franticly looking for Aurora. His was Mr Chai Jun Hing, a 87 year old retired businessman.

I finally knew I couldn't avoid it. Around Aura's neck was her collar. Imprinted on it, was the details of Mr Chai. I shakily picked up the portable phone and dialed. A female voice answered the phone and I asked for Mr Chai. "Are you a friend of his? Haven't you heard, Mr Chai had a heart attack yesterday. He has been sent to Timbaland Hospital." I quickly asked for Mr Chai's room number and sribbled it down. After getting me to wear a skirt to look pleasant, mum eventually sent me to the hospital.

In Room 172, a man full of white hairs with a majestic photograph of Aurora was lying and looking at me. I confessed everything to him in one breath and apologised over and over again. Mr Chai gazed at me and shook my hand. He said,"I'm an old man now, I just need you to promise me one thing. -coughs and clears throat- Promise that you'll take good care -cough- of Aura. Promise me." And I did. On that special day, the hospital staff allowed me to bring Aura to the old man. Mr Chai petted her fondly and strained to kiss her. Aurora licked him one last lick. Mr Chai, full of confirmation that I'll take care of Aurora, passed into another world peacefully.

Months later, I found out the Aurora was pregnant. A vet staff informed me that he witness Aurora mating with a male mongrel named Booshie. I told mum. Mum said she was too busy already and I was about to go to secondary school, which, to her, meant I couldn't care for Aura. I admit that there has been a day or two that I have forgotten to change Aura's water but I loved her a lot. To my horror, mum phoned the SSPCA to come pick Aura up. I snatched the phone away but it was too late. "I'm NOT going to lose her again! Not AGAIN! I promised Mr Chai. I thought I could trust YOU!" I yelled at my mum with tears streaming down my face. She slapped me for being rude and Aura immediately bounded towards her with gleaming ferocious teeth snarling. Mum at once grabbed the syringe nearest to her and aimed it at Aura. It was a Euthanisia injection, a lethal drug that was used to put animals to sleep. "Aura, STOP! Please, no!" I tugged Aura away from mum. The syringe came down and barely missed her ear.

A few minutes later, the SSPCA truck arrived and I, which was just a 12 year old kid couldn't do much but shout and scream at them. They hauled Aurora up and mum's iron grip on my arms didn't waver. Suddenly, overcome with sadness and anger, I went into a shock...999 came.

Slurp, slop! Nudge nudge. "Urmghh" I groaned. A hot panting tongue slurpped my face as if I was the Slurpy Sundae. I thought I was dreaming when I saw what was licking me and passed out again. The smell of antiseptic woke me up. I was quite dizzy and my mum appeared. She held my hand, saying that she loved me and that Aura would stay with us forever. Aurora, of course, didn't have an objection to that. I nodded anad grinned despite the cold air conditioning. That was the mum I knew. And we lived happily ever after.

Humans Story #6

"Witch, did you just have to do that?!" Harsh words flowed out angrily. Glaring at my sister, I grabbed her hair and tug at it while she screamed and struggled. The fight ended with me getting a punched stomach and bits of my sister's hair in my hand. Lucy, my minute older sister crushed my beautifully made clay model. The reason, because I turned of the TV when she was watching My Chemical Romance. I wanted to concentrate on the clay model but as you should know, our TV is a very old model of Panasonic and it takes ages to get the channel back up. Which means that she missed her song because...the TV takes ages to get back up!

Both of us loathed each other ever since we were born...that sentence is a lie, I tell you, a lie! My mother claimed that we fought as fetuses too! Anyway, both of us are twins. Brunette short haired, bad temper look-a-likes. Oh, and we're in the same class in school. Not to mention that we quarrel and throw stuff at each other almost daily, in class too!

Anyway, both of us always try to make up somehow, but they usually end like, "Thanks for that gift, just that I don't quite like that pink wrapper." and one of us will reply,"Oh, that's okay, it wasn't meant for you, it was for Lupe, our dog." And things shall end grouchilly (spelling?) again.

The End. :P

Renegade and Autumn

Story #5. Inspired by RPG: Dream Horses (no longer an RPG [not existing anymore]) This time, it is some sort of love story...but oh well. Work In Progress. Help is much welcomed.

Prologue:
Two brothers, one pure white, the other coal black. Both had been the best pals ever, until one mare made history. They fought because of her, and separated because of her. Now, there are two types of horses that each horse has a choice to go to. It just depends if they would risk their lives for it. The Lights are the good, though some turn bad. And The Darks are usually decieving and evil, but some do convert to the Lights. Generation after generation comes and goes, but this is the story of Renegade, the story of a courageos stallion that will never be forgotten.

Born a Dark, Ren (as they called him) witness the brutalitiy of the Darks, the murder of his parents. They were Darks too, but incidentally, Ren's mother gave birth to him, a grey, white spotted foal. Blackhawk was the leader of the Darks at that timei and he didn't tolerate light colours. He distested Ren and yearned to get rid (meaning kill) him. However, Ren's parents loved him and they prodded hiim to slip away at night when no one was watching. When Blackhawk found out what they were doing, he and his evil followers pounded the couple to death. Alas, Ren saw everything and knew he had to go. Reluctantly, he sped away, sobbing unstoppably.

After twelve days of running, Renegade came to a stream and drank from it. Seconds later, he toppled over in exhaustion. Unbeknowest to him, he had traveled over 3000 kilometers. He had this strange gift of speed even though he himself didn't know it. He then claimed this land as his, and named it Sorrowind, for he had fled to this place in his time of sorrow. Ren was changing, he did not suck in what the Darks usually thought to their foals. He begin to become kind and gentle. Two years passed quickly, he grew up strong in spirit and physically, enduring hard winters. He hadn't forgotten his parents but he knew he couldn't bring them back. But suddenly, he felt something he never felt before, lonliness.

At that time, a mare from the Southend Lands decided that she would not bear with her Light family anymore. It was not because she hated being good, it was because she had a split personality. Sometimes, she felt good doing good, helping others. But other times, when she saw the pearl necklaces that all Lights had, her secret Dark spirit would cause her to convulse and shield away. She crushed her own necklace. So, she ran away, she didn't plan where to go, just wanted to get away. She ran towards Sorrowind. Her name is Autumn, as she was born in that season.

Nelly Collaborate?

Story #4. Inspired and based on Nelly, my neighbour's dog. -not everything is true, and I named him Nelly-

Slowly, Nelly ventured into the carpark of that big house just to check it out. A guy inside the house spied on him, grabbed a stick, and came out the back door without the puppy noticing him.

The stick struck my back, I cursed and yelled with pain."What the heck did I do to deserve that?!" I barked at him. Of course, he couldn't understand my language (what a sucker) and I ran out to the road. Man, my back hurt real bad. The same guy went back into the house, and came out again with a much larger metal hockey stick. Bringing it down, it barely missed me. All that time, I kept hearing someone saying in my brain, "Run Nelly, run!" Nelly, that was what the girl called me. She wasn't my owner, she just fed me biscuits and named me Nelly. Suddenly, I realised that she had been sending thought rays to me! Not many humans had that specia power to be able to communicate to animals using thought rays. Anyway, it was her brother that hated me, hated the other animals too. I awfully do despise him. When I grow up, I'll get back at that savage human. I will, I swear it!

-back in the house-
Callie ran up the stairs and barged into her father's office where he was typing his lesson plan. "Dad, David just beat up that puppy I told you about, you've got to discipline him!" she complained and almost yelled at him, tears welling up in her brown eyes, chestnut hair ruffled down her shoulders. "What do you propose I do to him?" He answered nonchalantly, "He is already 18 and there isn't much I can do to change his ways." Callie slammed the door closed and stomped to her room.

"Propose?! Propose? What kinda heck of a question is that?!!" Callie thought to herself as she snatched her earphones off the desk and pressed them to her ears. She was so anxious about that puppy. It was a male prairie dog with GSD colours. He was very cute indeed. Just that he was a little scared all the time, and didn't quite let her pet him because the fear of humans had been implanted into his heart when his owner cut of his tail. "Docked" is the correct word. Nelly had a stump for a tail.

What a bitch, I thought and rolled my eyes. "Callie, that's just a dawgg, a freakin' dawg." Being the big brother of an animal lover is hard. She just goes crying at every single animal I chase away. Such a baby. They're just poopin' in my car porch, peein' on my tyres and on the dustbin. That dog just had to learn it's lesson. -shrug-. Oh, so that dog's back in now eh? Time to finish my job. -grabs hockey stick again and stomps out, shoving Callie out of the way-.

Story #3, no title.

Story #3. Up for collab also. Prologue was adapted from RPG: Gravity with permission from Crescent_Wolf.

Prologue:
In a post-apocalyptic future where humans live in domed cities surrounded by wasteland, wolves are assumed to be four hundred years extinct. Yet wolves do walk among them, disguising themselves as humans in order to survive in the human world. They say that there is a place where there is no pain or tears, where happiness continues forever. Many humans, and wolves, have tried to find that place but none of them were heard of ever again, and they never returned. Now some young wolves will follow the scent of Rupian Glory Flowers on a dangerous quest to find what the legend promised them: Paradise.

Ray was an orphan when he was just 3 years old. He lost both of his parents in a random kill. So he went to live with his old grandmother. Not long after his 18th birthday, Ray’s dear granny died of lung cancer. One day, as he was looking out his window thinking of the past events, he saw a wolf coming out of the jungle about just a few feet from his bamboo house. The wolf saw him and dropped something on the grass from its mouth and ran of. He came down and took the thing that the wolf dropped...It was a mirror, and at the back of the mirror, this was written:Wish to be a wolf, and it shall be so.You'll be able to change back,so wish it be true.He thought for a while and decided that it wouldn’t hurt and he wished to be a grey wolf. Miraculously, split seconds later, he opened his eyes and his eyesight and smell improved so much that he quickly changed back to human as he wasn’t used to it. Minutes later, he tried again and it worked! After testing out everything and touching his thick furred body, he transformed into a human again in fear that people might think he was a wolf (which he was at that time) and shoot him.

Ray wasted no time in packing and leaving for the unknown that lies before him. It landed him in a city 18 miles from where he started. He saw a young teenager-like wolf walking around, getting glances from the people. A guy and 4 of his friends gathered around her, with sticks and clubs ready. Elaina got into her fighting stance and two more wolves appeared snarling at the men around her. Some of the men backed away while others just got angrier. Ray quickly changed himself into wolf and charged towards one man’s thigh and sunk his sharp teeth into the meat. The others did their job, biting and chasing the terrified men away. When everything cooled down, the she-wolves looked at Ray and one muttered: He’s one of us.

Voltcom

Story #2. Currently up for collaboration.

-hoot hoot- An owl hooted in the pitch dark jungle. She could see a pack of wolves roaming the forest for food. In this pack, the leader was Voltcom, a smart and cunning alpha male. There wasn't any alpha female, not yet anyway. Somewhere in the shadows, the painful cry of a seriously injured moose calf caught his attention. Stealthily, Voltcom and his pack members trotted silently nearer and crouched down, patiently waiting. Their tongues stopped panting and each of them became alert, bright eyes gleaming in the night.

Shuffles were heard as the baby moose crawled through the undergrowth. Apparently, it had escaped a lion attack but was too weak to travel with the herd. Still, the hungry wolves waited for the leader's sign to attack. They all knew that this calf was too weak to escape though they just followed the usual: Crouch, wait, pounce, kill, eat. Voltcom's hackles rised -as a sign- and they all pounced, tearing and killing the calf easily. The cries of agony only lasted a few seconds. Then, only the sounds of satisfied licks were heard.

-passes a lot of chapters-

It was the mating season and each male had to fight for a female. Voltcom, set his eyes on Vespera, a popular (at least, among the males) and elegant beta female. Voltcom just had to have her. He was charming and ne of the huskiest and muscled wolves in his clan. His challenge was answered by the beta male of the clan, Mortain. So it begin- the fight for the license to mate. They circled each other on the battleground. Many other wolves crowded around to watch and drew "wolf lots" to who would win. After many snarls, snaps and gnashes, both wolves were tired and their coats weren't as shiny as before. However, neither was going to back down, or so it seemed. Accidentally, Mortain tripped over one of those spectators' paw, gaining ground for Voltcom to finish Mortain. But after getting a huge lash from Voltcom, Mortain hurriedly wimpered and sped of (as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast as he was badly hurt [his pride more painful than his physical being]) away into the trees.

-The End...not-

Welcome to Reflections Library

Hello there, I'll start posting my stories when I get time, possibly tomorrow. Thank you for your patience. I have written one story in my other blog and it is up for collaboration. Some of the stories I write only have a begining. Some are inspired and based on RPG games (which are inactive) but with permission as the RPG owners are my friends. I have a problem with titles and you probably could help (if you want to) when the story is up for collab.

Currently, I do have quite some prologues written in paper but now I do not have much time to post it yet. I shall later on. Maybe in the future, I will have a partner to run with me this Library. Hope you enjoy your um..."stay" isn't quite a suitable word is it? So, just don't steal and everything is (c) to me, Rene Yap. Okay, that's about it for now. Keep checking back. :D
